The Wine
The Princess is a most elegant red and slips down with velvety ease. It’s a classic Rhône blend, Grenache, Mataro (aka Mourvèdre) and Shiraz – slightly more Grenache in the 2017 – made at RedHeads wine studio in the Barossa. Here Alex Trescowthick is now in charge of operations. With extensive winemaking experience across Australia, Alex has developed a great network of grower contacts from whom he sources the very best grapes. The fruit for this wine came from the Barossa and nearby: Grenache from 65 year old bush vines in Tanunda (that’s the pure raspberry notes); Mataro from red, iron rich soils in cooler climate Ebenezer; Shiraz from the renowned Kalleske estate in Koonunga (black fruit and mocha). A top choice with risotto or pork.
