The original Cabalié red was created by winemaker Hervé Sabardeil, deep in the wilds of southern France. This reliably sunny region was once home to garrisons of Roman legionaries, and nowadays is a treasure trove for old-vine Grenache vines, producing tiny but intensely flavoured grapes.
Hervé Sabardeil had the idea to produce a red in the style the Centurions would have enjoyed in the days of the Roman empire – big, rich and packed with warming, spiced black fruit. It quickly conquered our customers hearts – racking up 1,000s of 5-star reviews and racing up the charts to become our No.1 bestselling red.
The luxury old-vine edition, Cabalié Vieilles Vignes, is from the same part of the world but made from even older vines – all of them at least 100 years old.
Then you have Cabalié Origine – which is made only from the two original vineyards behind the first ever vintage of Cabalié. Available only in limited qualities, it’s well worth seeking out.
Cabalié Blanc and Cabalié Rosé are also from the heart of southern France.
Cabalié Blanc is made from honeyed, aromatic Viognier, along with Muscat for grapey aromas and Colombard for green apple freshness.
Cabalié Rosé is made from Grenache and Syrah – a classic French combination for this style.
