Ombra Antica 2025

Meet Ombra Antica, a rich and hearty red wine loved by the locals of one of Puglia’s smallest, least-known wine regions.
Our buyer Leo has just returned from a trip to Italy’s deepest south, unearthing hidden gems and local favourites. Leo’s search led him beyond the last signposts for the big cities to the tiny region of Galatina – Puglia’s most hidden wine country. Here the grapes ripen to perfection under 300 days of glorious Italian sunshine, creating rich, hearty red wines that are packed with flavour.
The problem? Galatina is so remote and so small that no one has heard of them! The whole region makes the same number of bottles as one medium-sized Italian estate. Only a handful of growers are left to uphold the ancient traditions, making tiny quantities of wine from their family vineyards.
To help put their wines on the map, Leo turned to an old friend – one of Italy’s most awarded winemakers and the man behind many of your favourite southern Italian wines, Leonardo Palumbo. He’s also a champion of Puglia’s lesser-known regions. Together, they selected the best parcels from around Galatina, bringing you a rare taste of this lost red wine.
Made exclusively with Negroamaro, Puglia’s classic red grape, it’s luscious and warming, with ripe cherry richness, subtle smoky notes and lashings of juicy dark fruits. This is the perfect wine to enjoy with grilled lamb, wild boar ragù or Italian cheese.
