Awarded the International Wine Challenge Trophy for Riesling four years in a row, Leitz is certainly one of Germany’s finest producers. Their Kirchenpfad Riesling Kabinett is often highly scored and 2021 looks set to be another stand out vintage.

The Wine
The German Wine Guide notes “few in the Rheingau make finer wine than Leitz”, confirmed by four IWC Riesling Trophies. Leitz estate is in Rüdesheim, at the western end of the Rheingau, and is run today by Johannes Leitz, who took over the family property in 1985, aged just 21, after his father’s premature death. He increased the vineyards from 2.9 hectares to 43 and raised the estate’s profile to its current leading status. Rüdesheim is the region that "established Germany’s reputation for world-class white wines" (Hugh Johnson). Its steep slopes and loess soils provide perfect conditions for the intense, crisp, poised Riesling. Fermented with wild yeasts, this top Kabinett is left on its lees to lend a creamy roundness to the bright fruit.
