The Wine
Uruguay’s award-winning Giminez Mendez winery may have been awarded the ‘World’s Best Tannat’ trophy, but it also excels with the Albariño grape. The cellar was founded 30 years ago by the husband and wife team Luis Alberto Giminez and Marta Mendez. Marta is, in fact, one of the prime movers in Uruguay’s wine industry. The grapes are all grown in ocean-cooled vineyards in Montevideo. They are handpicked and carefully cool fermented with a little lees stirring to lend a touch of creaminess to the wine's citrusy, pear and peach fruit. Chill and enjoy with pan-seared fish, prawn risotto or creamy linguine. It’s a great glass on its own too.
