Saint-Julien AOC 2ème Grand Cru Classé
Loading...

Château Gruaud Larose is a top property of Saint-Julien. Its clarets are known for being firm and tannic in their youth, harmonious and appealing with a few years’ age. The 2017 is unfurling slowly to show dark berries, chocolate and spice.

The Wine
Château Gruaud-Larose is a large, 150-hectare estate, almost a village in itself. Since 1997 it has belonged to the Merlaut family (owners too of Chasse Spleen, Haut-Bages Libéral, Citran and Ferrière). They’ve made considerable investment in the property, so that today it is one of the leading châteaux in Saint-Julien. It prides itself on its sustainability, practicing organic techniques, making their own compost from grape pomace and recycling water. With Georges Pauli at the winemaking helm, quality is very high, worthy of its deuxième cru classé status. Largely Cabernet Sauvignon, plus Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, this Grand Vin was aged in 30% new oak barrels for18 months. Still young, this wine will benefit from decanting.
