The Wine
Kalleske is an inspirational seventh generation family estate that started out in 1853 in the tiny district of Moppa, in northwest Barossa. For 150 years, the family only grew the grapes, until 2002 when Troy Kalleske became to first to make wine too. The vineyards are today organic, verging on the biodynamic, indicative of the immense care taken every step of production. This glorious rich, well balanced Shiraz comes from nine blocks, all within the Moppa area, the oldest planted in 1961. Nearly all Shiraz, with a portion of Petit Verdot and a small vat of co-fermented Shiraz and Viognier, fermentation takes place with wild yeasts in open top wooden vats. Finished in part new (25%) oak hogsheads, this is a intense, expressive Shiraz.
