The 2024 vintage in Burgundy will be remembered as one of the most challenging in decades. A cold, wet winter and spring, followed by heavy rainfall and disease pressure, set the tone for a season that tested growers’ resilience. Frost episodes, hailstorms, and persistent mildew outbreaks compounded the difficulties, leading to historically low yields— minus 50% and above in many appellations. Despite adversity, some majestic wines have been made. Warm, dry conditions in late August allowed grapes to achieve phenolic ripeness, preserving balance and freshness. Careful vineyard management and rigorous sorting were critical, and top domaines rose to the challenge, sacrificing quantity for purity and precision.
As to the wines, we potentially have a very special white’s vintage on our hands, with many growers pitching the vintage in the same quality sphere as the greatest vintage this century 2014. Expect classic, cool profiles with tension, citrus, and chiselled minerality. Chablis looks particularly promising, and as ever represents clinical price versus quality.
The reds, have Lower alcohol, fresh acidity, and fine boned tannins. Allied to this there is better than anticipated concentration, in no smart part because of such tiny yields, which has ensured depth without heaviness. Stylistically, these wines lean toward old-school Burgundy, but with a modern vignerons touch.
As ever, the most sought-after wines will see high demand and we would urge you contact our team as soon as possible to register your requirements.
