If Chile is a viticultural paradise, Tarapacá Estate is its Shangri-la. Nestled in a horseshoe shaped valley, it lies in one of the world’s most beautiful wine growing regions. The 2017 Merlot is on top form – mouthfilling, smooth and deeply fruity.

The Wine
Chile excels with Bordeaux’s red grapes, producing sumptuous wines – claret style, but easier drinking. None more so than this smooth, creamy fruit Merlot from Viña Tarapacá, one of Chile’s most historic and grandest looking cellars. Its founder, Don Francisco de Rojas, travelled to France in the 1870s and returned with vines from Bordeaux and Burgundy, planting them around his classic colonial style house. In 1992 new owners took over and invested considerably in the vineyards and winery. They added a new humidity and temperature controlled cellar for maturing the wines, with a 4,000 barrel capacity. Sebastián Ruiz Flaño is the winemaker. His lush, fruity 2017 Merlot is ideal with roast lamb, a herby casserole or rich tomatoey pasta.
