The Story Behind the Bottle
Cave Vignerons de Buxy is a cellar of world-renowned, proudly making and promoting the great wines of southern Burgundy. They were founded over 90 years ago in Buxy to overcome some of the financial and logistical problems of the 1930s, focusing purely on the Chalonnaise region and expanding into the Mâconnais in 1977. 120 growers tend their family vineyards, supplying the cooperative with their much-cosseted grapes and the result is superb quality Burgundy at surprisingly affordable prices. From east-southeast-facing slopes with well-drained pebbly soil, this red has expressive red fruits with hints of smoke and damp earth. Its freshness and gentle tannins give the wine structure and longevity. A fine red with duck, lamb or beef fillet served with wild mushrooms. Open early; decant if you can.
