The Wine
Francesco Fortunato Maci is a new winemaker at the award-winning Cantine Due Palme, Salento’s leading winery. It was founded by his grandfather, Angelo Maci, to save the livelihoods of the region’s growers. ‘Stronger together’ was their motto. The cellar has won many top awards including Puglian Winery of the Year three times, Italy’s Cooperative of the Year twice, a hat trick of Winemaker of the Year and Angelo was given a Lifetime Achievement. No wonder Francesco has found his grandfather a source of inspiration. This is a fresh, modern red, its name a nod to the warm winds of Salento that keep the vines healthy and help ripen the grapes. It’s a vibrant Sangiovese Montepulciano blend, no oak – great on its own or with lighter dishes.
