Barossa Valley

For years the Tscharke family has tended their premium Barossa vineyards to supply grapes to famous Penfolds. Today, however, Damien Tscharke is keen to keep the best grapes and make a wine of his own. Brightly citrusy with juicy tropical notes.

The Wine
The Barossa Valley is home to many iconic wineries – Penfolds, Henschke, Seppeltsfield and the like. However, they source grapes for their top wines from small family estates like Tscharke. That’s where the real value and wine excitement lies. This terrific white is from the Tscharke family estate in Maranga, in the Barossa, its vineyards all farmed organically and biodynamically. Damien Tscharke is the winemaker today and has gone all-out creative with this Barossa white, using the rare Jura (of eastern France) grape, Savagnin, with a little Albariñho and Grenache Blanc, the latter providing tropical notes, while the former two lend a vibrant, citrusy core. The wine is lees-aged for five months to add a touch of creamy roundness.

I'm well stoked with this blinder of a Barossa white, so crisp and fruity and rare!
