The Wine
From the start, the aim at the great Torbreck estate was to create top-quality Rhône-style wines, using the grapes of the Barossa. They work with the best growers, many of them multi-generational, who know each vine, the soil and climate and how they interact. It is this respect for nature and expressing it in their wines that makes them so revered. The Barossa boasts some of the oldest Rhône varietal vines in the world – Grenache, Syrah and Mataro – which Torbreck uses in their 98-point wines like The Laird. The Struie is pure Shiraz, mostly from the Barossa with a little from the cooler Eden Valley to lend a fresh edge to the bold flavours. 18 months in French oak casks lends a layer of chocolaty spice complexity to the lavish fruit.
