Many top names have invested in Argentina recently, not least Moët et Chandon, who are behind the legendary Cheval des Andes – a Bordeaux-style red that unfailingly receives 90+ Parker Points. This luxurious, oak-aged Malbec is from the same stable.

The Wine
In the last 20 years, Argentina has risen to become a great source for fine wine. Moët et Chandon began research into the potential of Mendoza’s high-altitude vineyards in the 1950s and set up their first estate outside France in the 1960s. After 30 years’ experience in making sparkling wine there, they opened Terrazas de los Andes in 1996, a winery dedicated to still wines, based in a renovated cellar that dates back to 1898. This is their fine ‘mountain fruit’ Malbec, made from grapes sourced from more than 100 vineyards in the Uco Valley and Luján de Cuyo, planted high which lends considerable freshness. Aged for a year in oak, it’s a fresh, elegant wine, intense with vibrant red and black fruit and herb notes. Pair with a juicy steak.
