The Wine
The Sartirano family has been making fine wine in Piedmont for four generations, since 1871. They've gradually built up the estate, adding 27 hectares of Barolo's finest, south-facing vineyards in 1988. In 2002, they purchased the Ghercina property in Langhe's Novello, building a modern cellar, 70% underground! This wine is pure Arneis, a variety that was nearly lost for good in the 1970s, when it was out of fashion. Thankfully some top winemakers took it under their wing, nurtured it and now it's well in fashion. The grapes are all from its finest region – Roero. Offering gentle apricot and pear fruit, roundness and freshness, this is an elegant, characterful white. Delightful as an aperitif, or with grilled fish, creamy pasta or risotto.
