Principe Strozzi Vernaccia di San Gimignano 2016
Vernaccia di San Gimignano DOCG
Loading...

Vernaccia di San Gimignano was a favourite of Michelangelo – back then it was golden hued, barrel aged and oxidised (a little like sherry). Happily, for modern tastes, the Strozzi family’s version is as fresh as can be – racy, vibrant and moreish!
We're sorry, this wine is sold out.
But don't worry, you'll find plenty more handpicked wines here.

The Wine
Vernaccia is Tuscany’s most interesting white grape, making wines that are fresh and lemony with an attractive nutty complexity. It is at its best when from the fossil-rich soils of San Gimignano. As an aperitivo, this wine is a great way to start a dinner party and some lively conversation. The Strozzis, you see, were once powerful bankers, statesmen and rivals to the Medicis. Machiavelli began his illustrious career in their employ, and among their famous ancestors is one Lisa Gherardini del Giocondo, the ‘Mona Lisa’. The family are also related to Sir Winston Churchill. With irresistible citrus, peach and spice flavours, this subtle and elegant white is a great match for baked fish, seafood pasta or a spring vegetable risotto.
