Pieropan Soave Classico Calvarino 2016

This superb, fourth generation estate not only make some of the appellation’s finest wines, the founder – Leonildo Pieropan Snr – invented Soave Recioto, a delicious, sweet wine using air-dried grapes. Within their 30 hectares of vines the family have three single vineyards, all Classico, one of which is Calvarino. The 2016 has three top scores – Wine & Spirits describes its “tropical notes of pineapple that mingle with flavors of Bartlett pear and golden apple. Hints of white smoke, salt and crushed rock.” This complexity is thanks to the quality of the Garganega and Trebbiano grapes. Up to 60 years old, the organic vines are tended with the utmost care.
