The Wine
Penfolds are renowned for a progressive approach to making superb wines, in a range of varietals. It was their belief that Australia could match France for truly great Cabernet Sauvignon that led to the debut Bin 407, the 1990. Each subsequent release has featured the best fruit from premium regions - in 2020, Coonawarra, McLaren Vale, Wrattonbully, the Barossa and Padthaway, expertly blended before maturing for a year in French and American oak. The result is a powerful Cabernet of exceptional depth and complexity, and broad shoulders of velvet tannins to see it through two decades of ageing. Dense cassis preface core flavours of juicy plum and redcurrant, with layers of scented oak and rounded tannins. Decant early or tuck away.
