Niño de las Uvas Monastrell 2015
Bullas DO

Expertly crafted using the rich fruit of ancient bush vines that surround the remote town of Bullas in southeastern Spain, this weighty red is close in style to the super trendy reds of Bierzo (but better value!). A rich, concentrated, big spice red.
We're sorry, this wine is sold out.
But don't worry, you'll find plenty more handpicked wines here.

The Wine
Tucked away in a remote corner of Spain, high up in the hills and hidden by dense forest, Bullas is one of Spain’s oldest winemaking regions. The Romans made wine here over 2,000 years ago, and during an excavation of a local villa a complete statue of a child with grapes – ‘El Niño de las Uvas’ – was unearthed. It has now become the symbol of the town. This powerful, rich red is made purely from Monastrell, grown on ancient, gnarled bush vines that produce tiny berries with great intensity of flavour. Thanks to the altitude of the vineyards, the grapes ripen slowly, lending elegance, too. The highly lauded, Scottish born winemaker Norrel Robertson has captured all that flavour in this gently oaked red – a treat with lamb or cured meats.

Beautiful. I’m a fan of big reds, but this is a more refined, smoother hit to the palate
