The Wine
It's hard to believe that vineyards and Marlborough were strangers to each other a mere 50 years ago. Alfafa was the main crop there. But pioneers planted vines and ten years later their wines made newspaper headlines when a certain winery won first prize at our own London Wine festival. Questions were asked the next day in New Zealand government. Marlborough’s wines today are still synonymous with brilliant Sauvignon Blanc – as Chris Losh of Wine International wrote, “Marlborough did for Sauvignon Blanc what the Beatles did for pop music”.
