The Story Behind the Bottle
Barolo is undisputedly one of Italy's greatest red wines. Franco Massolino's Barolo uses nearly all Serralunga d’Alba grapes, where chalky marl soil produces some of the finest Nebbiolo fruit and longest-lived Barolo. The wine was aged in a mix of large and smaller barrels to add layers of oak spice to the wine’s generous fruit, but mostly to give it time to gain complexity. Wine Enthusiast called Massolino’s 2019 "an incredible performance for what is the firm's entry-level Barolo." Awarded a high 94-points, the 2020 is “already a joy to taste” (James Suckling). A fine food wine, best decanted well in advance. Serve with roast red meats, game casserole or mushroom risotto. It'll cellar for years if you have the patience to wait!
