La Barrique de Bordeaux 2014
Bordeaux AOC

La Barrique is a superb claret made using tiny parcels of grapes from hugely expensive spots in Pomerol (think Pétrus at £1,000), Pauillac (from vines abutting £800 Château Latour), Grand Cru Saint Emilion and Margaux. It’s complex, rich and long.

The Wine
La Barrique is made by two winemakers who own no vineyards. Instead they ‘cherry pick’ grapes from premium pockets of Pomerol, Margaux, Saint Emilion and Pauillac that meet their exacting standards, and meticulously vinify them. The precise attention to detail is just what you would expect from winemakers who earned their stripes making First Growth reds for £600 a bottle. Unhappy at seeing the ultra wealthy from Moscow to Shanghai pushing top Bordeaux out of the reach of traditional wine lovers, they made a stand with this glorious yet affordable claret. Decant before serving and enjoy the wine’s rich, supple fruit and complex flavours. Swirl it around in the glass, sit back and marvel. A class act with roast leg of lamb or prime steak.
