The Wine
The first vine planted on the Hyland Estate was in 1971. 53 years later, the property has a reputation for exceptional Pinot Noir. All its vineyards are planted on red volcanic soil, which lends freshness and elegance to the wines. Owner Laurent Montalieu is a vineyard fanatic, always striving to produce “the ultimate expression of terroir.” They grow different clones of Pinot Noir and do separate bottlings, farming biodynamically too. This is all from the Cloury clone imported from Alsace in the 1960s. Aged almost a year in fine French oak, it’s an aromatic, intense, ageworthy Pinot. Open early and decant.
