The Beer
The much-loved Guinness Draught Stout – almost black, with its creamy foam and its beautifully balanced dark chocolate notes with that bite of bitter refreshment. It wasn’t the first beer Arthur Guinness brewed, but was made in 1959 to celebrate the 200-year anniversary since Arthur signed a 9,000 year lease on the St James Gate Brewery. In the pub or the bar, you’d watch the barman skilfully perform the ‘two-part’ pour – one that Guinness would equally recommend for Draught Stout in a can. Tilt your clean, dry glass at a 45 degree angle, pour around two thirds. Then pause and allow the surge to settle, the pour to the top. You’ll be rewarded with a near-perfect pint.
