The Wine
Clare Valley is one of the finest places in Australia for whites and is especially renowned for its racy, aromatic Rieslings. Springvale within that is the highest, coolest vineyard in the Watervale subregion of Clare, which accounts for this Riesling's lovely ripeness underscored by brilliant mineral freshness. It’s from Grosset, “one of Australia’s best small wineries” (Hugh Johnson) and a specialist with the Riesling grape. Such is the esteem in which Jeffrey Grosset is held that he was elected ‘Riesling Winemaker of the Year’ in Germany! This white is always good, but in this 5-star vintage, it is even finer – tightly focused and deeply layered, a piercingly fragrant bouquet of lime, lavender, peach and apple. Outstanding now; will age.
