The Wine
For a remarkable Rhône experience, open a bottle of Confidentiel – certainly one of the finest Gigondas you will find. It’s from Christine and Eric Saurel, whose 57 hectare, fifth generation estate is based in Vacqueyras. They also have vineyards in Gigondas, all tended biodynamically, with the utmost in meticulous care. Confidentiel is their flagship red from this appellation, only released after a few years’ ageing in their cellar. It uses Mourvèdre and Grenache grapes from a special one-hectare parcel with vines averaging 80 years old. Fermentation is with natural yeasts with two years’ ageing in cement vats, none in oak. This wine is all about specific vineyard terroir and is remarkable for its delicacy and complexity. A wine to savour.

Outstanding notes of dark fruits, black raspberry, wild herbs. Lots of Provençal character
