The Wine
Established in 1859, Domaine Jean Chartron owns 13 hectares of vineyards in Puligny-Montrachet and neighbouring villages, including a number of Premier and Grand Cru vineyards such as Chevalier-Montrachet. Montmorin is a 3-hectare plot in Rully further south in the Côte Châlonnaise, a region known for its value. Neal Martin said of this estate, "Jean-Michel Chartron has gone about turning his winery into one of the finest examples of Puligny-Montrachet in recent years", while William Kelley praises it as "“an excellent source of pure and precise Puligny". His Rully is a delicious white for earlier drinking. Fermented in barrel, just 10% new, it has pretty, ripe stone fruit, floral notes and creaminess. Serve cool with chicken or sauced fish
