The Wine
For a great experience in Burgundian Pinot Noir look to the wines of Domaine Lignier, whose wines "become finer and finer" (JancisRobinson.com). This family property is run today by the fourth generation, nephew of Georges Lignier, Benoît Stehly, who is also the winemaker. The estate boasts 15 hectares scattered over some of Burgundy’s most acclaimed sites. That certainly includes this Grand Cru that scored an impressive 17+ with JancisRobinson.com. Clos Saint Denis, described as "the Mozart of the Côte de Nuits" for its subtleties, is only 6.42 hectares in total and Benoît has the largest holding – 1.49 hectares – with vines 45-70 years old. Part whole bunch fermentation and ageing in 40% new oak, it's a magnificent wine that needs time.

Serious, sober, yet elegant, needing time to become more expressive. Tannins are really fine. Long
