Domaine des Billards Saint-Amour 2019
Beaujolais AOC
Loading...
From Saint-Amour, an aptly named, much loved cru of Beaujolais, this is a true charmer. 2019 was an exceptional vintage, so there's lots of generous bright fruit and it's from the Trophy winning cellar of Maison Loron. "Well worth seeking out" (WA).
We're sorry, this wine is sold out.
But don't worry, you'll find plenty more handpicked wines here.

The Wine
Adored Saint-Amour is the most northerly of Beaujolais's prized 10 crus. A little cooler than the other villages, its wines have lovely lightness of touch, bright fruit and pure drinkability. In this ripe 2019 vintage, there is extra weight (14.5%). Domaine des Billards prides itself on its 60 year old Gamay vines, which produce grapes with intensity and poise. Winemaker is Frédéric Maignet, a firm believer in a gentle hand in the cellar, to guide the grapes through vinification. It certainly does the trick. James Suckling loved "the tsunami of ripe raspberries" of the 2019, while the 2015 was an IWC Trophy winner. With its lovely ripe berry character and freshness, the wine is a classic with charcuterie, pâtés and chicken. Very versatile.

Behind the tsunami of ripe raspberries are some nice tannins and healthy acidity. Long and generous
