Poggerissi is a soft, cherry rich Sangiovese made just like Chianti but from grapes grown within and also from just outside the appellation boundaries. At his third generation family estate in Chianti’s Rufina district, Paolo Masi crafts consistently superb wines. He has done so ever since he graduated top of his class from university in Florence and took over the family property in 1990. He makes a whole range of wines – from crisp whites to Chiantis and intense Super Tuscan reds. This Poggerissi is from a small, high quality Tuscan vintage, with yields reduced by April frosts. Pure Sangiovese, this silky, cherry scented red has attractive, intense fruit and freshness. It’s perfect on its own or with pizza, pasta dishes or chicken.
