The Wine

Saint Emilion Grand Cru Clos Villemaurine is owned by fourth generation Jean-François Carrille, but only the buildings. The family had to sell the vineyards in 2014. There was quite a clamour as they are situated on classic limestone clay soils and surrounded by famous names like Pavie, Clos Fourtet and Ausone. £250 a bottle Château Angélus offered the winning bid and is where you'll find the grapes from 2015 onwards! Dug deep into the limestone soils, the Carrille cellars are perfect for ageing the clarets at a constant temperature. That’s why this wine is in such great shape. Silky plum Merlot blends with raspberry spice of Cabernet Franc, all aged two years in barrel and 14 in bottle. A mellow claret and perfect served with game.
