The Wine
Château Talbot is one of Bordeaux's best known properties, certainly in the UK. It is named after the Earl of Shrewsbury, John Talbot, who suffered defeat at the hands of the French in 1453. The battle saw Bordeaux return to their control, after 340 years under the British. The reason we have such a strong tradition of drinking Bordeaux. With its 110 hectare single vineyard, it is one of the largest of the Médoc and is unusual for having a few rows of white grapes too. Their reds are most worthy of its 4ème Cru Classé classification. Today it is owned by the renowned Cordier family who excels in making fine clarets. Blending two thirds Cabernet Sauvignon, with Merlot and Petit Verdot, aged in 50% new oak for 15 months, the wine will age.
