Château Pavillon de Villenouvette 2016

Corbières is home to some of France’s richest, juiciest reds. Here, the combination of warm, southern sun and old vine native varieties create rewarding wines like this one. It’s from the Barsalou family’s grand estate, built by the architect behind the famous Palais Garnier in Paris. They’ve been crafting glorious reds here for the last four generations from gnarled old Syrah, Grenache and Carignan vines. Their vineyard is littered with the same round, flat galet stones which are a famous feature of Châteauneuf du Pape. These absorb the sun’s warmth and give wines extra mouthfilling ripeness. Dry conditions in 2016 have also assisted in producing intensely flavoured wines. Rich and rounded, this is the perfect pairing for roast lamb.
