In a place as historically turbulent as Lebanon, it’s remarkable to find one of the world’s finest red wines. Yet founder Gaston Hochar believed in it and now the 3rd generation brings you this magnificent, complex, long-ageing red, Chateau Musar.

The Wine
In 1930, aged just 20, Gaston Hochar founded the great Chateau Musar in Lebanon’s high Bekaa Valley. The property has since become a legendary name in the world of wine. Gaston was inspired by his country’s rich, 6,000-year history of winemaking, and his own travels to Bordeaux. His friendship with Langoa Barton’s owners continued that Bordeaux connection, as did his son’s, Serge’s, studies in oenology under the great Prof Emile Peynaud. Serge took over winemaking in 1959, and his commitment to crafting exceptional wine, even amidst Lebanon’s civil war, earned him Decanter’s first ever ‘Winemaker of the Year’. That stellar legacy continues with the next generation. This is their top wine, with mature red fruits and amazing complexity.
