The Wine
Château Haut-Bages Libéral is located on the banks of the Garonne river on the Bages plateau in the south of Pauillac. A renowned estate, it shares some of the appellation's best terroir with its prestigious neighbours Château Latour and Château Pichon Baron. The Lurton family acquired the estate in 1982, with daughter Claire Villars-Lurton taking the reins in 1992. Making great strides for the estate, she began its conversion to biodynamic in 2007, becoming fully certified in 2021. The 2022 vintage is dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon with 13% Merlot adding roundness. It’s aged for 16 months in 40% new French oak, 40% used and 20% amphora. A beautifully balanced Pauillac with bold black fruits, tobacco leaf and mineral elegance.
