Château Durfort-Vivens Organic 2019
The Lurton family purchased Margaux's Second Growth Durfort Vivens in 1961, yet the real exponential leap in quality took place when Gonzague Lurton took the helm in 1992. The 2019 "is a brilliant Margaux", of "immense nobility" (Wine Advocate).
We're sorry, this wine is sold out.

The Wine
Purchased in 1961 by the Lurton family, Margaux's Second Growth Château Durfort-Vivens wasn't felt to be realising its full potential. Then the next Lurton generation, Gonzague, took control and the quality rise has been exponential –"today Durfort Vivens unquestionably lives up to its 1855 second growth status" (William Kelley). The property's 55 hectares of vineyard, planted largely on gravel soils, has been farmed organically and biodynamically (a more stringent and holistic approach) since 2013. The vines are firmly Cabernet-dominated, as is the wine's blend. For the 2019 vintage, a third of the wine was matured in clay amphorae, which brings out an intense purity of fruit in the wine, while two thirds was aged in part-new barriques.
