The Wine
Owned by the Bourotte family (who also own Clos de Clocher in Pomerol), Château du Courlat is one of the most highly regarded estates in Saint Emilion's Lussac satellite. Pierre Bourotte is the current owner and continues the proud family tradition of producing authentic, ageworthy reds. In this he holds the mantle first picked up by his grandfather, Jean-Baptiste. A well aged claret worthy of his ancestor's name. Silky, mellow and complex with leathery leafy and earthy notes intricately woven with the delicate red fruit hints. Pure Merlot aged for 20 months in one third new oak, it’s silky and long. Stand upright for a few hours in case of sediment. Then pour carefully and savour all those nuances of flavour. Plain game dishes are best.
