Château des Brousteras 2014

Château des Brousteras is a small family-run property in Saint-Yzans-de-Médoc, just a few kilometres from renowned Saint-Estèphe. As it falls just outside the Saint-Estèphe boundary, it's classed as a plain Médoc and subsequently comes with a sensible price tag, while 'Cru Bourgeois' status ensures superior quality. Their vineyards lie just a stone’s throw from the Gironde estuary, so benefit from a moderate climate and grapes of excellent quality. This 2014 is a blend of plummy Merlot with cassis-scented Cabernet Sauvignon, aged for 12 months in small oak barrels. This is a beautifully complex Médoc with layers of black fruits, cedar and mocha spice. Best to open early and decant – a perfect match with spiced lamb or aged cheese.
