The Wine
Laurent Perrier is one of the most famous of the Grandes Marques Champagnes (for good reason – they make some of the finest fizz) and the region’s largest family owned house. Founded in 1812 by Alphonse Pierlot, Laurent Perrier was bought in 1939 by Marie-Louise Lanson de Nonancourt (of Champagne Lanson), who did much to raise its profile around the world. 2007 wasn’t a widely declared vintage, but Laurent Perrier has produced a fine wine that is ageing well. Winter and spring were unusually mild, while August was cool (hence the ageing potential). It was a generous harvest with grapes of great maturity and quality.
