This Special Anniversary Cuvée is a limited-edition Rioja from Castillo Labastida – a little-known estate crafting wines that punch well above their price.
The secret? Castillo Labastida lies next door to the legendary Las Beatas vineyard – known for single-vineyard reds that sell for £250 a bottle.
Castillo Labastida’s vines enjoy the same top growing conditions as their neighbour, with a long, slow ripening period that produces exceptionally elegant wines. And the wines even benefit from the same expertise – their winemaker, Javier Cereceda, trained at the cellar that makes Las Beatas.
But Castillo Labastida’s Riojas go for under a tenth of the price. They’re seriously smart buys – and it’s no surprise our customers love them.
Made to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Rioja DO, this Special Anniversary Cuvée showcases grapes from the estate’s two best plots. And as 2021 was “the best vintage in decades” (Rioja expert Tim Atkin), the quality is simply amazing.
Javier aged it for 16 months in specially selected oak barrels – exactly long enough to add a touch of spice while allowing the fruit flavours to shine.
