Puglia IGT

Love Amarone – Veneto’s queen of wines? Appassimento is southern Italy’s interpretation of this gorgeously, weighty style made from air dried grapes. From a family estate in Puglia, this past Gold medal winner has dense black fruit and spice notes.
We're sorry, this wine is sold out.

The Wine
Puglia is a treasure trove of exciting red grapes with a rich cultural heritage to boot. From these the region’s winemakers make unique characterful reds that are well worth discovering. This is one from the Botter family, who started out in winemaking in 1928. They believe the best southern fruit comes from close to the Puglian village of Alberobello, now a UNESCO world heritage site. There you will find many traditional trulli houses. These stone huts have pointed roofs decorated with ancient symbols appertaining to the planets – Mars in particular, hence Borgo di Marte, ‘village of Mars’. Mystical in origin perhaps, this satisfying, dense red has its feet firmly on the ground. A top choice for pork dishes, cheese and hearty winter stews.
