The Wine
Cantine Federici is a small, family-run estate in Lazio, just south of Rome, now led by third-generation winemaker Antonio. This expressive white wine showcases Malvasia Puntinata, a local grape grown in limestone-rich soils – where rocks were once used to build some of Rome’s most famous buildings. It’s a difficult grape to grow, but with the right care, it produces vibrant and complex wines, as you’ll taste here. Most of the estate’s wines are sold directly to local restaurants, so it’s incredibly rare to see them in the UK. Fresh and elegant, it offers honeyed aromas, ripe stone fruit flavours, bright citrus, and a long, mouthwatering finish. Great for solo sipping, and a superb match with white-sauced pasta dishes, seafood or chicken.
