The Newton Johnson family have established themselves among South Africa’s winemaking elite in just 20 years. This Chardonnay demonstrates a commitment to quality and a talent for making stand-out wines of value and finesse. The winery is near the coastal town of Hermanus in Walker Bay, one of the country’s coolest regions, ideal for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir of Burgundian finesse. Grapes are sourced from an 800m-high slope opposite the farm, where less sunshine and a cool climate ensures the grapes ripen very slowly, with racy freshness. Fermented and aged in barrel, the oak is still subtle. “A Chardonnay worth much more than its price – vitality like a Premier Cru Chablis” says Hugh Johnson. Serve gently chilled with creamy sauced dishes.

"A shimmering, gently savoury, and, for the quality, superb value alternative [to Burgundy]" David Williams
