This is a fine Fleurie, with lovely depth and silky berry length. No wonder, perhaps, when it's from this fine Cru and such a brilliant vintage. It’s crafted by the Vignerons de Bel Air, whose winery was formed by local growers in 1929 to better withstand the worldwide economic downturn. 90 years on and it's still going strong. Beaujolais has been undergoing a renaissance in recent years. A smaller region than it once was, quality is higher than ever and here is the Gold medal proof. Using handpicked grapes from 60 year old vines, grown in fine granite soils, this red has layers of red berries, summer fruit with a hint of liquorice and supple tannins. Serve with charcuterie, pâté, tomato tart or wild mushroom dishes. Versatile, delicious.
