The Story Behind the Bottle
Domaine Saumaize-Michelin is a boutique, family-run property in southern Burgundy. The wines are fabulous across the board, but their Pouilly-Fuissé Auz Charmes has to be the best buy. There were no Premiers Crus in Pouilly-Fuissé until 2020 and prior to that, Aux Charmes was always considered one of the finest sites in the region. But whilst the region’s growers wanted it as a Premier Cru, it was thrown out by the board on the grounds the soil wasn’t Jurassic. Crazily, it’s Triassic but that’s French rules for you! So Aux Charmes is cheaper than the 1ers Crus and in our view, an absolute steal. A lovely deep, rich nose with peachy flint, honey and flowers. Deliciously polished with a luxurious texture and a very long finish.
