How to make a Negroni Sbagliato
3RD JULY 2025
BY JENNIE JENNINGS
A classic Negroni cocktail mixes equal parts gin, Campari and vermouth. This take replaces the gin with Prosecco.
The Negroni – an oh-so-stylish Italian aperitif – dates back to the 1940s. Just saying the word conjures images of elegant diners swirling ruby-red drinks on sun-drenched terraces, effortless chic outside a tapas bar. Inspired, I ordered one recently in the hope of capturing a little of that magic. Sadly, what I got was more grimace than glamour – picture a child reluctantly taking their medicine. Unwilling to give up on the dream, I dug deeper. Enter: the Negroni Sbagliato. ‘Sbagliato’ means ‘mistake’ in Italian – but swapping gin for Prosecco? That’s a very happy accident in my book. If you’re after a spritzy aperitif with a bittersweet edge (and zero scrunched faces), the Negroni Sbagliato could be your new go-to.
