Flavour Profile
Few names command as much respect in the fine wine world as Vergelegen. Founded in 1700, this pioneering estate is firmly established among the Cape’s wine elite. Named a First Growth of South Africa by Tim Atkin MW, the wines famously overdeliver for the price – as you'll taste with the exceptional Vergelegen Estate White.
It's a delicious balance of Bordeaux favourites Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc from the estate’s top vineyards – the former from some of the winery’s oldest vines and the latter from the top of the Schaapenberg plot, each on different soils.
The grapes are handpicked and whole-bunch pressed for maximum freshness, then fermented in an assortment of oak barrels and foudres, with 10 months ageing in oak before the final blending.
Awarded 96 points and Trophy at the International Wine Challenge, along with 96 points from Wine Magazine, and 95 points from Decanter, this is an exceptional white wine that will age beautifully. Open early and decant if you can. A great partner to salmon en croute or a rich creamy chicken dish.
