Un Vent de Folie 100+ 2022
Maury AOC
Loading...
We’ve championed Jean-Charles Duran’s superb Un Vent de Folie for a decade. This is his 'Grand Cru' version – Grenache and Carignan from his 100+ year old Maury Sec vines. Minute yields and long barrel aging, it's powerful, dark, velvety and long.

The Wine
Maury is a tiny appellation in Roussillon, long prized for its sweet, fortified Vin Doux Naturel. If you’re already a fan of Jean-Charles Duran’s Un Vent de Folie, you’ll know that Maury’s very poor soils and windswept slopes produce exciting reds too. So exciting that in 2011 a new appellation was created, Maury Sec AOP, for the area's best reds. Jean-Charles has a few rows of prized 100+ year-old vines within Maury Sec and with these grapes he wanted to make a very special barrel-aged wine. He talked to a good friend, our winemaker Mark Hoddy, and the result is the fabulous 100+. It’s an intensely concentrated, old-vine Grenache and Carignan, carefully barrel aged in fine French oak for up to two years, and will age magnificently.

Stunning wine. I could drink it as my regular tipple but sadly I'm running out of bottles
