Ultima Edizione is a special project from our old friends Farnese. 30 years ago, we were their first international customer. Back then, they were based in a tiny office above a chemist. Today? They’re based in an ancient castle in Abruzzo; being named Italy’s ‘Winery of the Year’ three times in a row has a knack of changing your circumstances. To craft Ultima, the team cherry picked tiny parcels of soft, ripe Montepulciano and Sangiovese from the Abruzzi, and dark Primitivo and spicy Negroamaro from sun baked vineyards in Puglia in the deep south. Each variety is vinified separately, then barrel aged and blended to produce this intensely flavoured red. Weighty and smooth, it’s best with all sorts of pork dishes or a rich vegetarian lasagne.
