The Wine
Samuel Billaud started his winemaking career in 1985 at his family's revered Domaine Billaud-Simon. He then set up on his own in 2009 and later inherited some of his father’s most prized vineyards. Today he’s considered in the top echelon of Chablis winemakers, alongside the likes of Raveneau and Dauvissat. His Montée de Tonnerre comes from three plots (two in Chapelot and one in the lieu-dit of Montée de Tonnerre itself). A small portion is fermented in barrel to lend a gentle creamy roundness to the pristine fruit and fine minerality.
